Although the first edition of the study appeared over seventy years ago, Gardiner's Egyptian Grammar remains the most comprehensive presentation of Middle Egyptian available, and is still an essential reference tool for all advanced work in the language. The latest, third, edition, appeared in 1957 and is now in its tenth reprinting. After each new element of grammar the learner is given a set of exercises, and the book also contains useful resources such as a list of hieroglyphic signs and information about the development of the language.

Auflage / 1988). - Francis Llewellyn Griffith (gewidmet). - Englisch / Ägyptisch (mit Hieroglyphen) // " THIS large volume of over 650 pages, used at the Universities of all countries where the hieroglyphically written language of Ancient Egypt is taught, here reappears in a third revised edition. While the work is in fact an elaborate treatise on Egyptian syntax at the best period, the form is that of a progressive teaching book for beginners. In the second edition (1950) careful account was taken of all criticisms and relevant grammatical studies which had appeared during the past twenty years, besides including a greatly enlarged Egyptian - English Vocabulary, which, in the absence of any easily accessible and moderate-sized dictionary, should enable the learner to translate all the more important historical and secular texts. The present third edition contains a much extended Additions and Corrections, as well as substantial improvements elsewhere. " (Verlagstext) // Sir Alan Henderson Gardiner (* 29.
