Just as pearls are known to symbolize purity, wisdom, and beauty, I particularly marvel at how they are created. They are the only gem material that are created within a living creature over time. They form into this precious jewel after an irritant has entered into a shell. That irritant is then fully coated with nacre secretions. Over time, the irritant is completely covered by the secretion, layer upon layer. As the secretion hardens, the pearl is developed. The longer a pearl is kept within the covering of the shell, the more developed it becomes. No two pearls are alike.

The creation of a pearl represents me and my walk with the Holy Spirit over time. Once I finally surrendered and gave my life to the Lord completely, I thought my new shell as a “Christian” was a safe and protected place and that was all I needed to do. But little did I know, some irritants found their way into my “safe space.” Thankfully, the Holy Spirit is there to greet them and over time, layer upon layer, the things that irritate my soul are consumed by the Spirit, which then produces another pearl to add to my string. I pray this devotional helps confirm how precious you are to Christ and allows you to see how He is creating pearls in your own life over time.
